Team Chapman (group members and specific research topics below) aims to address how continental margins evolve through time and space using a variety of structural, geo-/thermochronologic, and modeling techniques. We are especially interested in estimating lithospheric inputs (e.g., magmatic additions, terrane accretion, tectonic underplating) and outputs (e.g., lower crustal/mantle delamination, tectonic erosion) to improve our understanding of the long-term stability and composition of continental lithosphere. We currently are funded by NSF grant EAR-1846811 to investigate subduction complexes in California and Baja California (Mexico). We recently completed work under NSF grant EAR-1524768 and REU-1358987 to better understand lower crustal and mantle xenoliths from central Arizona.
